Web Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the final game in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best bettors around the world. While betting on net poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He often participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I know Gus is an excellent poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is flat broke, he has no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the min takes almost all of the ability out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be 1 of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amount. I think television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The best poker players in the world may be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be seen playing online poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in high stakes Omaha and texas holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in cash games?
