Holdem Poker Legends
Stu Ungar is considered by many to the very best No Limit Holdem Poker gambler ever.
The 3 time World Poker Champion was born in New York in 1953 and began wagering poker prior to reaching his teens.
The young bettor started out wagering gin and at the age of 10 had won his primary gin tournament, while on holiday with his mother and father. By the age of fourteen the small poker maestro had turned pro and stopped going to school.
In ‘54 Stu Ungar entered the record books by winning ten thousand dollars in a gin tournament without sacrificing a single hand, a record which still remains in New York today.
The fast speaking wiz kid has been compared, in poker terms, to sporting superstars such as Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods. Stu Ungar had a real ability for playing poker but in spite of his achievements in Hold’em poker, he favored betting gin.
Stu once said that there might a few day be a much better No Limit Holdem gambler than him except he couldn’t see how anyone could ever be a much better gin player.
In ‘80 Stu was put on the world map as one of the ideal Hold em Poker players in the world when he was crowned World Poker Champ for the very first time. Extraordinarily it was the first time he had played in the tournament.
The following year he put aside any suggestions that it had been luck, by successfully protecting his title. And in ‘97 Stu set the record by winning his third World poker championship.
But this poker master also fought with drug abuse and a year following succeeding his third title Stu Ungar died in his hotel room. According to doctors, he had died from a heart attack which was triggered by his lifestyle.
Stu Ungar had started out with absolutely nothing except his skill and natural talent for the casino game which made this poker good a millionaire a lot of times over.
